DVD SERIES REVIEW:
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Season 1.1
by David S. Lane

Since 1982, DUKE, SNAKE EYES, SCARLETT and the rest of the G.I. JOE team have battled against the evil forces of COBRA to stop their bid for world domination with the creation of The M.A.S.S. DEVICE.  Since then, the G.I. JOE team has faced COBRA COMMANDER, DESTRO, STORM SHADOW and the rest of the COBRA organization in head-to-head action to protect the free world from their rule.  More than 25 years later, G.I. JOE has built a strong fan base of loyal followers in children and adults alike, launching countless collectible toys, comic books, animated series and an upcoming feature film.

Synopsis:
G.I. JOE is an elite group of special operatives, fighting for freedom wherever there’s trouble. In this animated series based on characters from Hasbro’s popular line of 3 ¾” action figures, the G.I. JOE team will stop at nothing to defeat COBRA – an enemy with the singular goal of world domination!

Review:
If you grew up in the 1980's and are still a kid-at-heart, you will want to own this great compilation series. Even if you're a kid today, and are learning about the adventures of G.I. JOE verses COBRA for the first time - you will want to own this box set. Season 1.1 is beautifully re-mastered by SHOUT! FACTORY and the set is far superior to the previous Rhino Home Video release, which had many errors (wrong opening sequences, etc.). Plus, they never actually completed the full run of episodes - leaving fans feeling ripped off.

This new DVD set presents the first 22 episodes of the syndicated series on four DVDs, available just in time for Paramount's theatrical film release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - in theaters now!

I truly enjoyed watching these shows again. They really provided me with a sense of nostalgia, as I remember watching these after school each day. The original series was grouped into story arcs of five episodes and became the first ever animated mini-series on television.

You get the first three with all the self contained excitement of each storyline. G.I. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO (aka The MASS device), has the G.I. JOE team battling COBRA for the first time over their new machine that can teleport soldiers or equipment across the World. THE REVENGE OF COBRA, the enemy returns with a new plot and both sides introduce new characters to continue the battle. THE PYRAMID OF DARKNESS, showcases the evil Crimson Twins: TOMAX & XAMOT, also who can forget a breakdancing SNAKE EYES and the introduction of SHIPWRECK and his talking parrot POLLY.

Plus, the fourth disc contains seven regular episodes that have there own thirty-minute adventures with a variety of colorful characters and exotic locations.

DVD EXTRAS:

RECOMMENDATION:
I highly recommend that you add G.I. JOE Season 1.1 to your DVD collection and pick up each and every release to complete the series. It will bring you hours of enjoyment and have you whistling the theme song and reciting the famous catch phrases...now you know...and knowing is half the battle!
